Our Favorite Moments from SSA Fall 2026

SSA in Vegas is one of the top events of the year in storage. You can’t recreate it anywhere else.
Part of it is having, what feels like the entire industry under one roof. Part of it is the long days that somehow turn into even longer nights. Mostly, it’s getting real face time with people you’ve known for years. This year delivered.
It always feels like the best reunion. Old friends, former colleagues, customers, and a lot of familiar faces I’ve collected over the years in storage. Some conversations happened at our booth, but some of the more meaningful happened just walking down the hall and running into old friends, colleagues and partners.
We kicked things off at a great dinner with customers and friends. Great food, better company, and a good reminder of why this industry feels so close-knit.
What operators are asking now
A few themes came up in almost every conversation.
The biggest was visibility. Operators aren’t asking what an AI agent can do anymore. They want to know how it’s performing, how it’s getting better, and what it’s actually doing for the business. That means sharper reporting, clearer performance data, and a view that works for everyone from a property manager to the C-suite.
The questions also got more ambitious. Can the agent complete a full rental, not just answer questions? Can it handle collections? Can it follow up with a new online lead the second it comes in? Can it work securely inside the systems operators already use?
A year ago, the question was “Can AI do this?” Now it’s “How do we make it work across the business as a whole?” That’s a big shift, and it’s the right one.
Build versus buy came up too. Some larger operators are weighing whether to develop their own agent. It’s a fair question, and it opens up bigger ones: who builds it, maintains it, improves it, integrates it, secures it, and keeps up as the technology continues to move?
Bottom line: operators are getting sharper about how they evaluate this technology. They’re asking harder questions. Good. They should be.
Storage is changing fast
Tech wasn’t the only topic. Regulation and litigation were everywhere this year. As the industry grows, operators are paying close attention to a more complex regulatory landscape and what it means for how they run their businesses.
Put it all together and you get an industry thinking seriously about what’s next. How do you keep raising the bar on customer experience? Where does technology actually help? Where do you need more visibility and control? And how do you keep adapting as expectations, regulations, and tools all shift at once? Those were my favorite conversations of the week.
We came home with a camera roll full of photos, pages of notes, and a lot less sleep. But the best part was simple: a few days with people I genuinely enjoy being around, in an industry I’m honored to be apart of.
To everyone who stopped by the booth, joined us for dinner, grabbed us in a hallway, or just said hi in passing: thank you. See you in Savannah!
